Matapuna Road
Horopito Vintage Car Museum
Horopito Motors is an institution dating back to the early 1900's. It has been in the same family since that time. Amoungst the hundered or thousands car wrecks the garage has collected is a really cute little vintage car museum.
Any car buff might even enjoy walking around the wreckage yard and be amazed about the collection of cars available and being used for spare parts.

Matapuna Road
Old Coach Road Cycle Trail
Enjoy a grade 2 cycle trail from Horopito to Ohakune. It is just 12 km to the end of the trail or 15 km if you cycle into Ohakune. You will follow the history of the railway connection between Horopito and Ohakune. Well sign posted and many interpretive panels will tell the story of the history of the rail track. Enjoy riding across the Hapuwhenua Viaduct, whihc at 41 m of lenght is an engineering master piece for the early 1900's.
Cycle can be hired either in Ohakune or cycles can be dropped of at the Night Sky Cottage.

Mountain Road, Ohakune
Turoa Skifield
Enjoy the skifield from July to the end of October ( weather permitting). Top elevation for ski area is 2333m.
Shuttles to the skifields are available from Ohakune , or self drive to the carpark at the top . Allow 35 minutes from the Night Sky Cottage.
Rental equipment is available in Ohakune as well as at the base of the mountain.

Whakapapa Skifield
Only 35 minute drive to Whakapapa Village will give you access to Whakapapa Skifield. Either catch a shuttle from the village or self drive for 5 km to the base of the mountain.
Equiment hire available in Ohakune, National Park Village or on the skifield itself.

Tongariro Crossing
The famous Tongariro Crossing is a an amazing 19 km day hike through the Volcanic landscape of Tongariro National Park.
You are required to book shuttle either from National Park Village ( 15 minute drive) or from the Ketitahi Carpark at the end of the Crossing. ( Allow 1 hour for driving, parking and finding your shuttle)
It is also possible to walk it as a guided walk, which is essential if you are visiting in the winter months.

Fancy a jetboat ride to the Bridge to Nowhere? Great day trip any time of the year. Take a 45 minute scenic drive to Pipiriki, enjoy a jetboat ride to the Bridge to Nowhere. Walk to the bridge and learn the history behind this bridge. Either jetboat back or take a leisurely paddle down the river in a canoe.
